How to Add Transitions and Animations in Google Slides
Bring your presentations to life with motion. Learn the simple steps to add engaging transitions between slides and animations to your objects.
Steps to Add Transitions
Transitions are the effects that happen when you move from one slide to the next.
- Open your Google Slides presentation.
- Select the slide you want to add a transition to (or select all slides).
- Click Slide in the top menu, then select Transition.
- A panel will appear on the right. Choose a transition type (e.g., Fade, Slide from right) from the dropdown menu.
- Adjust the speed slider as desired. You can click "Apply to all slides" to keep it consistent.
Steps to Add Animations
Animations apply to individual objects like text boxes, images, or shapes on a slide.
- Select the object (text, image, etc.) you want to animate.
- Click Insert in the top menu, then select Animation.
- In the right panel, scroll down to the "Object Animations" section.
- Choose an animation type (e.g., Fade in, Fly in) and set the timing (e.g., On click, After previous).
- You can add multiple animations to the same object or reorder them by dragging.
Pro Tip: Use transitions and animations sparingly. Too much motion can be distracting. Use them to emphasize key points or smooth the flow of your story.
